An additional way to protect your home is to replace your existing windows and doors with Impact Glass, a specially laminated glass certified to withstand the current State of Florida’s impact rating of an 8-foot 2×4 shot directly at the glass, while not allowing the projectile to penetrate into the opening.

The latest building code requirements state that all of Escambia & Santa Rosa County, as well as Valparaiso in Okaloosa County, fall under the “Wind Borne Debris Zone.” The law states that if more than 25% of the total glazed area of the home is replaced, the openings must have “Large Missile Level D” impact rated protection for each opening involved. This is a state requirement for permitting. There are some building departments that will permit the use of plywood, and if they do, it must conform to the accepted state standards of precut panels with opening labeling, plywood thickness and preinstalled mounting hardware (fastener size, wall structure embedment and spacing).
More than likely, your installation will require impact-rated glass windows. We can install these in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Panama City & the surrounding Gulf Coast!
